Quiz results!

Yay! Because I'm crazy like this... and slightly bored/tired/trying to stay awake and failing.

Honorifics at a Glance and Kazahaya's stance on them.

So, I was reading through the app replies because I like to see what people are talking bout and I don't really feel like doing much else at the moment, and I cam upon Hinata-mun's comments to Kisa-apper regarding the use of honorifics in the game. I can't imagine that I've played Kazahaya this long that anyone hasn't noticed how much he uses honorifics. He uses them constantly. It's like his one major pet peeve.

It's honestly gotten to the point where I forget what some character's given names are because he only calls the by their last (like Yakushi-san for Kabuto). It's wild, but it's how he operates. Honestly, with the few people he doesn't tack honorifics on I'm constantly saying it in my head, and getting around it when I'm writing is hard . . . . Anne, Cal, Sousuke, and Rikuou get called by name-sans-honorific--and their the only ones who get called sans honorifics that I can think of off the top of my head.

I can understand that it might be slightly annoying to some people. However, it's very much in his character to speak like this. In the manga, the only people he calls familiarly are Rikuou and Kei. (I can't remember right off the top of my head if he refers to Tsukiko as Tsukiko-san or not.) The use of the name in the Japanese society is really pretty structured, and Kazahaya as far as I can tell sticks with it really strongly in the manga.


I know I've had to explain it to a number of campers, and honestly, neither Kaza nor I mind doing it. I just wanted to throw together a quick reference incase someone got confused or was just curious. (Thank you Del Rey manga team, I abuse you shamelessly now.)

Okay, I take it back, Anne, Cal, Sousuke, and Rikuou are called by name out of respect and being given permission to do so. Kazahaya calls Excel and Ash by their first names because of the other reason. ^_^;;;; eheh... um...

In any case, Kazahaya does use the honorifics constantly, mostly "-san," "-kun," and "-chan." He does occasionally drop it when asked specifically to do so, but it is occasionally a struggle to do so. As some people may have noted, Kazahaya also becomes quite defensive about his own name as well. When it is used sans honorific, he becomes quite undone. For the most part, he is relaxing his stance on his own name, but he will continue to address people using the Japanese system unless given specific permission not to.


I just wanted to get this out of the way because I know some people have had trouble with using honorifics before, and I honestly don't understand how that could become a problem if it is in character for a person to use them. I throw this out there because I'm personally not going to stop using the honorifics for Kazahaya anytime soon and probably never. I don't want anyone to feel like they have to use them though just because Kazahaya does, nor do I want anyone to feel like they can't use them just because not everyone does. It's personal preferance of how one's character is played. So... now I'll be quiet.
